Paul Chidale and Roza Mbilizi sheer quality on the golf course once again shone like a beacon when they won the HS Wine House Wednesday Ball Pool at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).

It was one of those rare moments when the prize presentation was held at the sponsor’s premises where the golfers were treated to wine and cheese later in the evening.golf

The three-handicapped Chidale, who basks in the glory of being one of the best golfers on the domestic scene, registered 19 points—counting out Muhammad Patel—to carry the day.

A vintage display on hole number seven, on which he had two club, was the centrepiece of Chidale’s victory.

“I prepared well for the tournament, I had good training. The prizes were also wonderful,” said Chidale, who spiced up his victory with two subsidiary prizes of nearest to the pin combined on hole number one and two club. He got a trophy and Moet and Chandon champagne valued at K59 000 for his feat.

The evergreen Mbilizi stood out in ladies category with 18 points and she was excited at her triumph, saying: “I am happy to have won, I practised quite a lot ahead of the tournament and we had a good time on the golf course.”

BSC immediate past captain Hudson Kantwanje had the longest drive on hole six and, oh yes, he hit it real hard.

HS Wine House’s managing director Rachel Mijiga said they were impressed with the turnout in their inaugural tournament.

“A field of 40 golfers on a Wednesday was quite impressive and we will definitely be back next year.

“We sponsored the ball pool because most of our customers at Wine House are golfers, so we decided to have fun while enjoying wine and cheese,” she said.

BSC golf captain John Gift Mwakhwawa expressed gratitude to HS Wine House for responding positively to their request.

“It was a beautiful day out. It is the first time we have allowed that a prize ceremony should be held elsewhere so that golfers should appreciate Wine House’s services. There is always a sub-rule to a grand norm,” said Mwakhwawa.
