Paul Chidale on Sunday emerged the overall winner in this year’s Blantyre Open Golf Championship sponsored by Business Computer Services at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC).

Chidale, who is ranked one of the best golfers on the domestic scene, had a gross of 151 over two days to see off a spirited challenge from his runner-up Victor Kachepatsonga who accumulated 153 gross.

Chidale said the secret of his triumph was keeping the ball in play. The birdie he had on hole 13 made the difference for the one-handicapped golfer.

“I did not play good golf today, but I made sure I kept the ball in play,” said Chidale, who went away with a modern computerised desk top with a complete unit worth K96 000.

With a gross of 155, Stanford Mayuni came third in the Championship Division.

Sope Kayira emerged the champion in the A Division with a gross of 163, his runner-up was Chimwemwe Chimwaza with a gross of 169 whereas Edwin Chipala was third with a 170 gross.

Dr. Adril Guarino came out tops in the B Division with a score of 182 gross while Shaiko Nthakomwa and Nester Msowoya finished second and third, respectively.

They all received assorted prizes from Business Computer Services that included trophies.

Business Computer Services managing director James Chimwaza said it was their pleasure to sponsor the two-day competition.

“We started last year, when we celebrated 25 years of existence and we are happy to be back,” said Chimwaza who also announced that his company has introduced another product called Support Application.

Blantyre Sports Club golf captain Medson Kalambule thanked the sponsors and the golfers for making the competition a huge success.
