Chief Mwaulambia said this on Friday morning when The Nation spotted numerous children waiting for maize at Mwamukumbwa Agricultural Development Marketing Corporation (Admarc) Depot while their peers were in school.

The sight of children in snaking queues are increasingly becoming widespread as the prevailing food shortage, which has hit about 2.8 million Malawians, bites harder.

During a rapid assessment of the food situation along with Oxfam and Civil Society Agriculture Network (CisaNet), most less privileged parents nationwide admitted driving children to work on farms of the well-to-do to generate income to buy food rations.
