Chiefs should engage in exchange programmes—JB

Malawi President Joyce Banda has asked chiefs to engage in exchange programmes to learn from each other development they can implement in their areas.

Banda was speaking in Dowa on Thursday at the elevation of Traditional Authority Dzoole to senior chief.

Said the President: “It is vital that chiefs involve themselves in exchange programmes…to see the kind of development work other chiefs are implementing in the country as this will enforce a learning spirit. ”

The President hailed T/A Chitera of Chiradzulu for the safe motherhood initiative and protecting the girl-child.

She also commended other chiefs who are taking a stand on safe motherhood.

At the same function, Banda elevated sub-Traditional Authority Mponela to T/A.

“I respect chiefs as they are the ones government is depending on in as far as development of the country is concerned.

“I will continue elevating chiefs who have passion to help their subjects just as the newly installed senior chief,” said Banda.

The President presented the newly elevated senior chief with 200 bags of fertiliser, Senior Chief Kaomba with 100 bags and another 100 bags to Senior Chief Lukwa.
