Newly-promoted TNM Super League side Chikhwawa United are also in contention to produce the Premier Division Golden Boot Award winner in Dave Chadewa.

Chadewa scored and finished the season on 28 goals as Chikhwawa wound up the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) second tier division on Saturday after walloping hosts Zomba United 6-2.

Chikhwawa shrugged off from the championship race Cobbe Barracks who beat Green Hawks 4-2 to finish on 81 points, three behind the champions. Andrew Kamlete and Moses Scoti scored for Hawks whereas Luke Muyaba, Saopa Mpotalinga (twice) and James Saimoni netted for Cobbe.

In scoring on Saturday at the Kamuzu Stadium, Kamlete made it 27 goals with one Hawks game to go. Kamlete can overtake Chadewa in the remaining game.

In Division One, Surestream Academy suffered an uncharacteristic 2-1 loss to Naming’omba before drawing 0-0 with Blantyre ADD on Sunday.

Nonethless, Surestream still lead on 76 points from 30 games whereas as ADD are fourth on the table with 63 points from 28 games just like second and third-placed Mangochi Police and Chinangwa Madrid.

SRFL vice-general secretary Kingsley Simbeye said while most Premier Division teams will wind up their games by next weekend, the division clubs have some seven remaining games on average.
