Veteran Chikondi Banda is taking fans down the memory lane with splendid displays in Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) second tier Premier Division.
The former Bullets star Banda netted on Saturday alongside two-goal hero Bright Kunje at Escom ground when Nyasa United drew 3-3 with Tigers Reserves coached by his former People’s teammate Meke Mwase.
On Sunday, in 3-2 defeat by Chikhwawa United, Banda also scored alongside Kunje for Nyasa. Other players for Nyasa were Tendai Mbisa and Aggrey Kanyenda. Ian Banda, Bright Mphamba and Godfrey Tsamwa scored for Chikhwawa.
However, when it comes to team honours, it is rookies Thondwe United who look impressive having, for the first time this season, climbed up the table.
Thondwe drew 2-2 with third-placed White Eagles on Saturday before beating hosts Mwanza Eagles 3-1 on Sunday to stretch the tally to 26 points from 12 games, displacing from the summit Evirom (23 points from 10 games).
The Zomba side Thondwe netted on Saturday through Mada Mutepa and Gift Ziwanda while Chisomo Chikafa and Austin Malekano replied for Eagles.
Eagles remain third on 20 points in the 20-member second tier division. In other games, coach Thango Chauma’s pep talk could not prevent his BNC Produsak from a 1-0 BAT Ground defeat on Saturday against Cobbe Barracks.
Elsewhere, Chanco remain bottom on three points from three games after falling 2-1 to Liwonde Medicals on Sunday. On the individual front, Evirom’s Harold Zulu lead the top scorer race on 11 goals from 10 games.
