If I were

Chikulamayembe or M’mbelwa

Paramount Chiefs of Rumphi and Mzimba, I would not be overjoyed if not overzealous to declare that President Peter Mutharika will retain his seat in 2019 Tripartite Elections.

Much as I am entitled to elect a leader of my choice, I would not use my position to publicly endorse a party presidential candidate instead of being politically neutral as required.

If I were a tribal king of kings, I would tame my tongue because this endorsement could be construed as a ‘thank you’ to the President whom I recently accompanied to Zambia for the Comesa summit. Some may even suspect that the allowances I got on the trip influenced my thinking.

Being a chief, I would always insist on neutrality because I oversee people of different political affiliations.

Therefore, if I were the Tumbuka chief, I would take extra caution before uttering political statements that position me as a puppet

That is if only I were a chief Chikulamayembe, but I am just a journalist.
