Hear Us Musical—a children’s choir from the country’s Music Crossroads project- finally left for Barcelona, Spain for a cultural exchange and education trip.

At exactly 1 pm on Wednesday, the entourage boarded an Ethiopian Airlines plane on their way to the Catalan lands via Addis Ababa and Rome respectively.

The group, comprised of nine pupils from various primary schools in Lilongwe is expected to hold about fifteen performances and educational talks in music schools and other primary schools across the Catalan town of St. Cugat, whose council has facilitated the trip.

Music Crossroads mentor and leader of delegation Julia Elisa Kaphamtengo hinted they will also hold at least one public performance to showcase Malawi’s traditional dances and folk music.

“At least that will be as a token of appreciation for the people of St. Cugat because they are the ones that have footed all our expenses through our partner, Petits Musics del Mond,“she said.

The group was initially supposed to leave early this month, but Music Crossroads Malawi director Gaghiyaye Mfune attributed the delay to logistical issues.

He said his organisation had challenges in processing visas for the pupils.
