Chilomoni Sisters bask in Airtel Netball glory
Chilomoni Sisters have finally ended their title drought in all competitions after snatching the Blantyre Urban Airtel Money Netball Championship.
They beat defending champions Shizaella Queens 53-47 at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Saturday.
The champions received K250 000 (about $39) and also qualifed for the Southern Region finals.
However, it was not an easy task for the Sisters to unlock the defending champions.
The two sides settled for a 40-40 draw in regulation time before the Chilomoni outfit was rewarded for great determination and incisive attacks in extra-time.
“This is a great relief for us,” said Chilomoni Sisters coach Linda Kaponda. “We are very excited that we have finally won our first title in a prestigious competition. This is wonderful.”
Shizaella received K125 000 (about $197) while third-placed Izo Izo Sisters got K70 000 (about $153) after beating Nyambadwe Queens 43-31.
Fourth-placed Nyambadwe received K50 000 (about $79).
