Ekwendeni United scored the consolation through striker Michael Kumwenda.

Before the Sunday goal galore, the Karonga based soldiers were also awarded a 2-0 victory by NRFA after Kawalazi from Nkhata Bay failed to turn up for the match.

The 2-0 award win over Kawalazi and the 5-1 victory against Ekwendeni United has taken their tally to 68 points ahead of the second placed Karonga United who have 51 points.

“Our vision remains that we should win all our games in the second round. The unbeaten record in the second round testifies that this is achievable. As explained earlier, we want to ensure that we should get promoted to the Super League,” said Chilumba assistant team manager Phillip Jere.

Second-placed Karonga United rested over the weekend but have three games in hand.

Karonga United head coach Abraham Mwankhwawa said they still have chances to overtake Chilumba and lift the championship.

“Anything can happen in the game of football,” he said.

Rumphi Medicals are third with 25 points from 25 games after registering a 2-1 win over Lunyangwa on Saturday at Mzuzu Upper Stadium. n
