Flames coach Young Chimodzi says he is impressed with the pool of football talent he discovered in the Northern Region.

Chimodzi made the remarks on Wednesday at Mzuzu Stadium where he was identifying talent for the Malawi Under-23 and the Flames after inviting Super League and Premier Division players from the region.

“I am impressed with the skill displayed. This will give me a wider choice of players to feature for the Flames junior and senior sides,” said Chimodzi who declined to name players he had picked.

However, in the course of the training, Chimodzi and his assistant Jack Chamangwana appeared impressed by Moyale Barracks midfielder Chrispin Fukizi, strikers Khuda Sambo and Mphatso Mlauzi as well as Mzuzu United defender Madalitso Kawonga, striker Peter Kasonga and midfielder James Phiri.

Chimodzi was also heard talking good of the likes of Khumbo Msowoya and Green Msowoya (Karonga United) as well as Kabwafu’s Christopher Zgambo.

While saluting government and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for the talent identification exercise, Fish Eagles coach Elias Gomile advised government to ensure that FAM is well funded so that the identified players are closely monitored until they make the grade for the national teams.
