In a surprise turn of events over the hiring of Andy Dell as the Flames’ technical consultant, coach Young Chimodzi says he is in the dark about the Englishman’s coming.

“We are yet to be told. When FAM briefs us on the same, I will be able to comment,” said yesterday Chimodzi, a day after returning from Zambia where the Flames lost 2-0 at Nkoloma Stadium, Lusaka.

FAM has hired Dell from United Kingdom’s Reading Academy in a bid to ensure the Flames win the 2015 Cosafa Cup and qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The former Surestream Academy coach will work with the coaches, monitoring and evaluating them while making recommendations to FAM executive.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu insists the decision was made in consultation with technical committee and the technical director John Kaputa who analysts feel is competent to assess the coaches. Nyamilandu was elusive as to why the coaches were never briefed.

However, National Coaches Committee acting general secretary Benjamin Kumwenda on Monday insisted that while Nyamilandu asked the coaches on their training needs ahead of the assignments, there was no mention of the consultant.

Interestingly, Nyamilandu claims the association’s executive committee endorsed the hiring of Dell on Saturday and two days later on Monday, he was already expected in.
