Chimseu crowned BSC champ

Goodwin Chimseu was at crowned Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) overall golf champion after a round of 36 holes over the weekend.

The Blantyre Closed was sponsored by GN Engineering and Aluminium.

Chimseu, who played a total score of 157 gross, saw off a field of 75 golfers.

He put on a vintage show to see off defending champion Gabriel Kambale and ever-improving Lester Tandwe’s spirited challenges. Kambale (159) and Tandwe (160) were second and third respectively.

In his victory speech, Chimseu thanked God for his grace.

 “I have won because the grace of God was on my side. I do not take it for granted. The guys I played with are very good golfers. They fought hard to be crowned BSC 1. But I guess it was not their day. I am BSC 1,” he said.

The A Division was won by Justice John Katsala with a gross of 161 over two days, his runner-up was journalist Anthony Kasunda with a gross score of 168 while Charles Makamo was third with a score of 170.

Paul Nyirenda came tops in B Division after carding 195 gross, beating retired Major General Clement Kafuwa and Evans Songola who finished second and third respectively.

The ladies category was won by Doreen Kavala. She scored 70 nett and her runner-up was J Yoo with 71 nett.

GN Engineering an Aluminium Limited managing director Noel Nkulama thanked the golfers for the overwhelming patronage.

He said: “If you support our business, we will be back again next year.”

A closed championship is an event that kicks off a calendar year.
