Chimwaza attributed his success to consistency, saying: “I was very relaxed and consistent throughout. I thank Kingfischer for organising such a wonderful tournament.”

His outstanding display was on hole seven where he claimed a birdie. For his feat, Chimwaza got a trophy, travel and toiletry bags and a pullover whereas Mbilizi received a trophy, travelling bag, pullover and golf balls.

Gilton Chiwaula had the longest drive while Simon Moses was nearest to the pin and he went away with K28 000.

Kingfischer managing director Henry Sisya expressed satisfaction with the turnout, saying: “Considering that we did not publicise the tournament, the turnout was impressive.”

Sisya also pledged continued sponsorship of golf tournaments, saying it provides them the platform to interact with their existing and potential customers and it helps them maintain presence on the market.

“We have taken you to Nchalo, Mulanje and now we are back here [in Blantyre]. And next year, we will be back,” he said.

BSC golf captain Webster Kaunga hailed Kingfischer as one of the outstanding sponsors.

“Even when we approached them within short notice, they responded positively.”
