China has donated an assortment of equipment to Malawi Wushu Federation (MWF) worth K10 million aimed at promoting the sport that is pushing to gain prominence.
Wushu is Chinese martial arts and was introduced in the country about eight years ago.
Presenting the donation in Lilongwe yesterday, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shin-Tin Wang hoped that the donation will enhance performance of the athletes.
“I hope the donation will be of great use in your daily training and help you achieve much success,” he said.
Among the donated items were heavy bags, kungfu costume, swords and gloves.
Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Henry Mussa thanked the Chinese government for the donation.
He further challenged the athletes to compete for international medals: “Government’s wish is that you must dream of challenging for medals in foreign countries. I hope that with the support you get from China and our government you can achieve this.”
MWF president HaxsonChapasa said the sport is progressing well because of the Chinese Government support.
“This is the second time that China has donated equipment to our federation. In addition to such support, China has been sending us trainers to equip us with knowledge,” he said.
