Malawi’s representative at the Miss World pageant Susan Mtegha on Saturday missed the crown at the Dongsheng Stadium in China.

The event saw the 25-year-old Wenxia YU, a Chinese national being crowned winner after beating 115 other beautiful contestants drawn from across the globe. She is the second winner of the title for the country in six consecutive years.

Wenxia has taken over the crown from Ivian Lunasol Sarcos of Venezuela.

Her first princess is Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia and Sophie Elizabeth Moulds (Wales) is her second Princess.

However, Mtegha only managed to appear in the Top 20 list of the dancing competition, which was not part of the important categories at the pageant.

Speaking when giving an overall assessment on this year’s Miss World manager of Miss Malawi Vitu Kamanga said the competition was tight and it exposed lack of preparations and insufficient support for the event.

“The event was fine, it was so competitive, but I honestly expected a lot more especially at the finals from Africa. There stiff competition throughout the categories and those who watched it will now understand what we mean when we talk about good preparations and support,” said Kamanga.

She added that most contesters from other continents were well prepared and got the good support from their countries to help them carry the day.

“Susan has not done well because she never got the expected support in time. This consequently affected her preparations to the world event. We will now start preparations for the next event upon arrival of the queen,” said Kamanga.

Meanwhile the office has announced that Mtegha will arrive in the country tomorrow (Tuesday). According to Kamanga, the queen will land at Chileka Airport aboard the South African Airways (SAA) flight in the afternoon.

The office has since arranged welcoming parties for the queen. The first one will be held in Mzuzu at the magnificent fun-maker Key Lounge on August 31 before partying at Blue Elephant in Blantyre. The final party will be hosted in the capital city at Chickitos on September 14 2012.
