Chintheche Beach Soccer League (CBSL) has organised a day-long beach soccer tournament to be played at London Lodge in Nkhata Bay on February 15.

The tournament is worth K300 000 (about $750) and has been sponsored by beach soccer fan Kondwani Gondwe.

According to CBSL general secretary Samson Malipa, so far teams that have confirmed participation include Chintheche Escom, Kawiya Zalo, Kawiya Eagles, Chihame, Green Buffaloes, Mudyaka B System, Katoto (Mzuzu), Chintheche Nyerere, La Exotica and Kaweta Destroyers.

“We are grateful to Mr Gondwe for this sponsorship. It is not an easy thing for an individual to sacrifice such kind of money. The tournament will help to lift beach soccer in the country. We appeal to companies and individuals to invest in the sport,” said Malipa, who said each team is supposed to pay K3 000 (about $7.50).

According to Malipa, winners will receive K100 000 (about $250). Three other winners will receive K70 000 (about $175), K50 000 (about $125) and K40 000 (about $100) respectively.

During a similar tournament, also sponsored by Gondwe last year, Kawiya Eagles came tops followed by Kaweta Destroyers, Kawiya Zalo and Escom respectively.
