Chiotcha ABU fight shifted to March

Intersport International Promotions Limited has shifted the African Boxing Union (ABU) middleweight title fight between Chimwemwe Chiotcha and Ugandan Medi Sebyala to next month.

Chiotcha was supposed to fight Sebyala tomorrow, February 28.

In an interview, ABU vice-chairperson Lonzoe Zimba said the change has been made by the organisers to accommodate Tanzanian boxers at the event.

“What I got is that the boxing bonanza has been shifted to March. It is unfortunate and very inconveniencing, but we have no control over that. I was going there only as an observer, representing ABU and not as Chiotcha’s representative. But I understand that it is costly on the part of the boxer,” said Zimba.

In an interview on Tuesday, Chiotcha said he has not been informed about the postponement.

“When I called Mr (Lonzoe) Zimba to get an update on my trip to Uganda on Monday, he only told me to wait and that he would come back to me. He never came back to me. I called him again in the evening, but he did not pick up my phone. Even now, he is not answering my phone. InterSport again are yet to communicate to me. We are in the dark as no one is willing to tell us the truth,” said Chiotcha.
