Chip-in Masters donate to Gogo Chatinkha patients

Chip-in Masters, a grouping of Blantyre Sports Club golfers, yesterday donated festive packs to patients at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital’s Gogo Chatinkha Maternity Wing.

The 70 hampers, which contained groceries, were donated to patients in the high dependency unit and labour ward.

One of the masters, Eric Chapola, who was the guest of honour, said they made the donation in the spirit of sharing with the sick during the festive season.

“As Chip-in Masters, one of our objectives is to assist the needy by donating a little from the members’ contributions,” he said.

Chapola also said they took opportunity of their visit to appreciate the challenges which the maternity wing faces.

“We have learnt about their challenges such as lack of adequate oxygen cylinders, air conditioners, ventilators and monitoring machines and we have made a commitment to come again and see how we can help,” he added.

Judith Chirwa, chief nursing officer of the wing, expressed gratitude to the golfers for their gesture.

“We appreciate your gesture and as you have seen, the patients were happy and having appreciated our challenges, we are hopeful that you will come again to assist us in one way or the other in the future,” she said.

During the visit, obstetrician and gynaecologist Luis Aaron Gadama and Naomi Sangaya briefed the Chip-in Masters on the challenges they face.

Two weeks ago Chip-in Masters made a similar donation to Chikondi Disability and Orphan Centre. n
