Former MTL Wanderers striker Joel Chipofya scored four goals, including a hat-trick, last weekend to move Bvumbwe Research to the top of the Arthur Mutharika Southern Region Football League.

Chipofya scored a goal in Bvumbwe’s 4-1 win over Nyasa United on Saturday before scoring three in Bvumbwe’s 4-2 win against Chanco on Sunday.

The two wins have taken Bvumbwe to 45 points—four more than second-placed Nchalo who have five games in hand.

Since joining the team three weeks ago, Chipofya has scored seven goals.

“My game is picking up and I am happy to be helping Bvumbwe get the results. Much as my stay here will help me resurrect my career, I also want to see them win the championship and earn Super League promotion,” said Chipofya.

Another former Wanderers striker Rafiq Mussa is also enjoying good form at Bvumbwe as he scored a double against Nyasa United and one against Chanco.

Changalume’s chances of moving to third position were delt a blow after they lost 1-0 to Chanco and remained fifth with 36 points.

Evirom have moved to fourth position after their 3-1 win over Tigers Reserves.
