Apart from the Lords of the Green, Powertex and Livingstone Pharmacy, who are part of the grouping, also co-sponsored the event played in extreme chilly conditions.

It couldn’t have been sweeter for the 18-handicapped golfer who triumphed on his wife’s birthday.

Chirwa had a score of 20 points.

“My start wasn’t that good, but I did well towards the end and I finished with four pars.

“So, it’s not the way you start, but the way you finish. I dedicate the triumph to my wife who is always a source of inspiration,” he said.

Ntchane Nkhwazi (23h/c) was the runner-up with 19 points. He counted out Zim-Zim Mohammed (14h/c) who in turn, also counted out Andrew Santhe (17h/c).

George Chirwa had the longest drive on hole 11 while none of the golfers achieved nearest to the pin on hole two on which Powertex staked a vehicle battery of any kind. Zacharia Hara, Charles Nseula and Lance Pinto had two clubs and got K13 000 each.

Powertex managing director Itai Chidzero thanked the golfers for taking part in tournament.

“We are excited as Powertex to be a major sponsor in the Lords of the Green tournament. We feel honoured to be given the privilege by the committee and we hope to do this again in a big way.

“We know some of you golfers are already using Powerstart batteries and we expect more support from every Blantyre golfer to be using these durable batteries. We currently have three outlets in Limbe-head office, Blantyre and Lilongwe city centre with dealers in Nchalo, Mwanza, Ntcheu, Dedza and Salima,” he said.

BSC golf vice-captain Keta Mwalwafu thanked the golfers for braving the chilly weather.

“It was not easy and we nearly postponed the ball pool because of the adverse weather conditions,” he said. .
