Godfrey Chisale and Lusubilo Chakaniza lived their dreams on Saturday when they won Total Malawi Invitational Golf Tournament titles in the respective men’s and ladies’ categories at Kasasa Golf Club in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

Chisale participated in this 18-hole contest with a mission of winning a trophy on the eve of his 19th birthday and he accomplished it after emerging tops in the 60-field with 38 points, a single point ahead of second-placed Dan Mazoe and two points in front of third-positioned Justin Dzinkambani.

For achieving this feat, he  received K250 000 worth of fuel, ulitium solar lamp and a  trophy.

“It feels good to win on the eve of my birthday. There could be no better present to myself as I turn 19 tomorrow,” said Chisale, who has just completed his secondary school education.

As for Chakaniza, this was the moment she defended a golf crown for the first time. She registered 33 points to take home K180 000 worth of fuel, a T-light lamp and a trophy.  Audra Bester finished second with 32 points.

“I am happy to have finally done it,” said handicap-29 Chakaniza while urging more ladies to compete in such events.

Total Malawi managing director Seggie Kistasamy said  they sponsored the event as a way of maintaining their long relationship with Illovo Sugar Company and to encourage aspiring golfers and their key customers to take the sport seriously. n
