Chisoni quits CCJP

Social and governance commentator Chris Chisoni has quit his job as Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) national secretary following his appointment as executive director of Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board.

Speaking in a telephone interview yesterday, Chisoni said his role at CCJP, the social justice and advocacy arm of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), an umbrella body of the Catholic bishops in Malawi, was fulfilling his mandate as the CCJP national secretary which means he was speaking on behalf of the institution per its mandate.

He said where he is now is something else, dealing with students’ loans and grants; hence, there will be less of him in the media.

Said Chisoni: “I leave CCJP a very happy and fulfilled man knowing that by the time I was joining CCJP, its profile was not where it is today. I am happy that at the time of leaving CCJP, it is one of the formidable institutions on economic and political governance recognised by government and other important stakeholders in Malawi.

“Its continuity is also very critical to ensure that there are actions for better governance in Malawi and around elsewhere.”

Chisoni, who joined CCJP in February 2005, said his move to the board is personal.

He said: “I applied for the job and I was offered the job. I have left CCJP because I got to pursue other duties and diversify my experience. The two are totally different though they both contribute to the national development from different perspectives.” n
