On Wednesday, the Flames stand-in captain was on the scoresheet when the Flames beat Djibouti 3-0.

The Big Bullets striker, scored his first goal in the opening game which Malawi won 2-1.

Other contenders for the golden boot award are Tanzania’s Khamisi Juma and Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge who also have two goals apiece.

Msowoya, however, said he was not focusing much on the golden boot.

“I thank God for the goals. But what is important is for the team to keep on winning the games and not what I can achieve as an individual,” he said.

Malawi has already qualified for the quarter-finals and will play South Sudan today as a formality while waiting for their opponents in the last eight.n
