South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bloemfontein Celtic will not sign Flames burly forward Chiukepo Msowoya for now, but the two are negotiating a pre-contract deal.

Chiukepo underwent trials for more than a week recently, but both the player’s agent Martin Sekati and Celtic team manager John Maduka yesterday confirmed that he has not been offered an outright deal.

Said Sekati: “According to Celtic management, the coach was happy with Chiukepo’s performance, but they could not offer him a contract because their foreign quota is full having signed a Burundian striker [Fiston Abdul Razak].

“So, the arrangement is that he will return to Celtic in May for further assessment, but a pre-contract deal is on the cards and we will be discussing that once I get to Bloemfontein.”

On his part, Maduka also said Chiukepo made an impression, “but there are other minor tactical areas which the coach wants him to work on and we are expecting him back during pre-season in May. Otherwise the coach was happy.”

Chiukepo, who is still in the rainbow nation, could not be reached for comment.

Last year, he also underwent trials at PSL side Bidvest Wits and a top Lebanese side.

He was last season’s TMM Super League Player of the Season and joint Golden Boot Award winner with 14 goals alongside Red Lions’ Innocent Bokosi.
