The Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) has appointed Gerald Chiunda as executive director of the institution.
Gerald Chiunda was until his appointment director of research and test development at the institution and takes over from Jack Chalimba who has been acting executive director for two years.
In a press statement, Maneb says the appointment is effective August 18, 2017 and follows his being successful in the interviews for the post which were held on August, 10 this year.
It says Chiunda has a combined work experience of 19 years in examinations and assessment.
It further says having joined Maneb in 1998, he rose through the ladders to the position of Director of research and test development in 2009.
“He was later seconded by the Malawi Government to the United Nations where he worked as a technical manager for an assessment programme, covering 15 countries in East and Southern Africa.
“The Board of Directors would, therefore, like to congratulate Mr Chiunda on his rising to the highest post at Maneb and wishes him good luck as he executes his duties,” reads the statement in part.
According to Maneb senior public relations officer Simeon Maganga, the last executive director for Maneb was Augustine Gundula who left the board three years ago.
