Moyo: We will do a lot of charity

Chiwembe Housing Catholic youths Saturday last week cheered patients at the oncology department of the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where they also donated toiletries to the sick.

Chairperson for the youth, Patrick Moyo, said the donation was in line with the church’s catechism, which highlights the role the youth play in spreading the gospel through active participation in charity work.

Moyo said the Catholic Church empowers young people to be vessels of ‘hope and life’ in cases where people have lost hope due to physical, spiritual as well as economic challenges.

He said the donation, which was the first since the group was formed some months ago, heralds the beginning of their active participation in evangelism work through actions.

“We intend to do a lot of charity work in line with what the Catechism teaches us,” said Moyo.

He explained that the charity activities aim at mitigating the social, physical and spiritual challenges people are facing in various localities.

“We believe the small donation we have made will lessen the economic pressure on them as they are undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he said.

The donated items included bath and laundry soap.

Moyo thanked Christians from Chiwembe Housing for contributing generously towards the youth ministry.
