Christmas is a time to show love for the less privileged to manifest God’s gift of life, Archbishop of the Blantyre Archdiocese of the Catholic Church Tarsizius Ziyaye said on Christmas Day.

Speaking during a lunch organised by the Community of Sant’Egidio at St Pius Catholic Parish Hall in Blantyre, Ziyaye said he was edified by the community’s gesture to host the elderly, orphaned children and the less privileged on the day.

Said Ziyaye: “Some of the people here could not have afforded to celebrate the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ, but by bringing resources together, members of the community have proved love for fellow mankind in this festive period is possible.”

Apart from St Pius, Sant’Egidio director Elard Alumando said members contributed K1 million (about $3 030) for Christmas lunches which were held at 12 centres in Blantyre.

“Every member contributed whatever little amount they could afford. We should not always look beyond ourselves to assist the needy and bring joy to their lives,” said Alumando.
