Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) Livingstonia Synod has warned political party followers against wearing party colours at the funeral service for the late Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe today.

The synod issued the warning yesterday at St Andrew’s Church in Mzuzu where hundreds of people paid their last respects to the chief who died on Thursday last week after succumbing to low blood pressure.

Speaking during the church service, Livingstonia Synod general secretary the Reverend Levi Nyondo blamed political parties for conflicts that take place in some of the gatherings.

“Wearing party colours brings confusion. Anyone who dares will be chased away,” he said.

Nyondo described late Chikulamayembe as a great leader and a dedicated christian who deserves respect.

Group village head Kawazamawe, who spoke on behalf of the late Chikulamayembe’s family, appealed to mourners to avoid politicising the ceremony.

Born Walter John Hardy Gondwe, Chikulamayembe will be buried today at Bolero in Rumphi.
