Community-based organisations (CBOs) working in and around Blantyre will receive a boost to their service delivery, thanks to the goodwill of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints.

The church’s director of public affairs Edward Matale confirmed partnering with CBOs in an interview on Friday.

Matale said the aim of the partnership is to better serve the beneficiaries and improve the quality of services.

He said the church has since organised a consultative meeting with chiefs and leaders of the concerned CBOs to map the way forward.

“Tentatively, the meeting has been scheduled for January 31 this year. Basically, the church is exploring the best means through which we can better serve the people who live in Blantyre,” said Matale.

He said the church has lined up a number of development projects aimed at contributing towards the socio-economic transformation of the country.

According to Matale, the church will take different approaches in implementing the projects to ensure that more people are reached with services.

Notable among the projects is the Employment Resource Centre (ERC) to be opened soon at the church headquarters in Mandala, Blantyre, where jobless young people will be accessing free printing, Internet and computer services.

Matale added that the church plans to roll out a clean water project in Blantyre to benefit low-income earners access safe and clean water.

“A similar project is currently benefitting hundreds of people in Mchinji where we first implemented the project,” he said.
