Churches raise K59m for flood victims

A month ago, some churches in the country launched a campaign with Airtel and TNM urging people to send text messages as one way of raising money to support flood victims.

Apart from the campaign, member churches under Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) and Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) realised K59 million from the SMS campaign.

Last Friday, the churches, together with World Vision Malawi (WVM), handed over different items to Nsanje and Chikwawa victims.

Vice-moderator for Nkhoma Synod Rev. Alfred Nyanda said the donation included clothes, shoes and food items.

WVM Christian commitments manager Richard Chigwenembe thanked the churches and their faithful for assisting the flood victims.
