Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with the aspirants, the alliance’s project coordinator Jean Chilombo said they have hope that at least 80 percent of the female aspirants will make it.

“We are hoping that 80  percent of the women in the district will excel,” she said.

Chilombo said the alliance is helping female candidates to develop manifestos, hold rallies and road shows, among others.

On her part, Salima North West Constituency parliamentary candidate for Umodzi Party, Maureen Kamputa, commended the initiative by Citizen Alliance, saying it will boost their morale.

“Many people say it is impossible for women who are competing for the same position to come together and hold a rally or a meeting, but this initiative will really change the mindset of many Malawians,” she said.

Salima has five constituencies with three women vying for parliamentary seats and 22  contensting for ward councillorship. n
