The group of some of the top Zambian artists dubbed the Fly5, are confirmed to perform at the two-day arts festival brought to Lilongwe by the Lake of Stars Project.

The team is a collaboration of individually celebrated artists consisting of star Slapdee, JK of the Kapiripiri fame, Cactus Agony, rising gospel sensation Pompi and Zambia’s first supermodel Petita Mwanza. Together, they are the brand ambassadors for Zambian Airline Proflight Zambia.

“The Fly5 will be joining South African superstar, Tumi, Kenyan Afro-pop band Sauti Sol, UK’s George the Poet, Swedish/Malawian outfit The Very Best, UK-based Algerian singer YaDi, Malawian reggae veteran Sally Nyundo and local urban star Piksy on the list of headliners for the festival.

“Other confirmed Malawians on the bill are Sirius, Q Malewezi, Lulu, Malawi Mouse Boys, Mwezi Arts Theatre, Wendy Harawa and Blantyre’s hip hop queen, Rina,” said one for the organisers Tamanda Mbendera in a statement.

She added: “On top of supporting the festival by bringing the five artists to the festival, Proflight Zambia has put on two special schedule flights between Lusaka and Lilongwe on Friday 27 September and Sunday 29 September to provide travel options for those wanting to attend the festival from Zambia.

“The flight, that will also be carrying the artists from Lusaka to Lilongwe, will be offered at a massive 30% discounted rate in the form of a promotion code.”

The festival will also include a Family Day that will see special line-up and range of activities for children on Saturday 28th September

2013 such as face-painting, storytelling and jumping castles.

Celebrating its 10-year Anniversary, the Lake of Stars Project is staging a two-day, multi-venue arts festival and conference showcasing the best in emerging and acclaimed talent from Malawi and beyond at Sanctuary Lodge in Lilongwe, Malawi from 27 to 28 September 2013.

City of Stars will feature an eclectic programme of live music, film, theatre, literature, exhibitions and speakers, and will promote Malawian culture and creativity as well as attracting international artists and arts practitioners.

Malawi is the first country that Proflight Zambia has operated schedules to outside of Zambia and hopes this is the first of many other regional destinations following the introduction of its route to Lilongwe in June this year. The Lilongwe route began with three flights per week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be adding a fourth flight on a Friday later this month. The airline has been operating for over 22 years and has scheduled flights to nine destinations within Zambia.
