Civil Sporting Club on Sunday scaled to the top of the TNM Super League summit following a 3-0 triumph over Karonga United at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

They have overtaken Blue Eagles, who temporarily led on the 16-team log-table on Saturday. Civil Sporting are top courtesy of a better goal difference as they are tied on six points with second-placed Eagles.

Strikes by Raphael Phiri, Dan Kumwenda and Isaac Msiska ensured that the Civil Servants got their second straight win.

The Lilongwe-based side, who triumphed by a similar score margin against newcomers Mlatho Mponela in their league opener, have so far scored six goals and have  not conceded while Eagles have notched three and let in one.

Msiska is currently the league’s joint leading goal scorer with three goals, having caught up with Silver Strikers’ Khuda Muyaba.

“It feels great to be at the summit of the table,” said Civil Sporting team manager Gabriel Chirwa.

“However, the risk of having these excellent results is that we have given other teams a picture that we are in good form and they will come hard on in our next outings. This is why we will work even harder to up our game.”

In other matches on Sunday, Masters Security FC and Dwangwa United got their first victories in two outings each with 1-0 triumphs over Ntopwa and Savenda Chitipa United, respectively. Cuthbert Sinetre scored Masters’ lone goals while Chifuniro Mpinganjira did it for Dwangwa.

Masters are now fifth as they are tied on four points with third-placed Moyale Barracks, fourth-positioned Silver Strikers and sixth-placed Mighty Tigers. Dwangwa are on ninth-place with three points.

In another fixture of the day, Mzuni FC and TN Stars settled for a two-all draw at Mzuzu Stadium with Collen Nkhulambe and Stain Dave hitting a brace each for their respective outfits. However, it was Nkhulambe who bagged the man-of-the-match accolade in his first league match of the season after being loaned out by defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets.

This was the first time in three league games that Mzuni FC has managed to score as they lost 0-5 to Be Forward Wanderers in their opener and drew 0-0 with Ntopwa in the second match.

Newly-promoted Mponela anchor the table with no point in two games.
