Civo strikers to share top-scorer’s prize

Civo United strikers Nelson Kangunje and Raphael Phiri, who have scored two goals apiece, will share equally the K100 000 ($179) top-scorer’s prize of the Standard Bank Knockout Cup.

On Monday, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions manager Gomezgani Zakazaka disclosed that the only option was for the two to get K50 000 ($89) each.

“We have two top goal scorers this year and it has been agreed that each should get half of the total prize money,” said Zakazaka.

The top-scorer’s purse is like an icing on the cake for the two strikers whose goals have helped their team to win the cup in the finals played last Sunday at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, Civo beat Be Forward Wanderers 1-0.

Patrick Masanjala of Mafco FC won the golden boot last year with two goals as well. n
