Civo United have given up the fight to retain Chawanangwa Kawonga and have since left him to join Silver Strikers, according to the club’s general secretary Rashid Ntelera.

Civo have been in a protracted war over Kawonga after Silver Strikers made a direct approach to Super Eagles, the team that claims to have rights over the player.

“We decided to let Chawanangwa go because we do not want to be seen to be standing in his way. But we have evidence that the player belongs to us. He is still a minor and it is not fair to be seen to be frustrating his career,” said Ntelera.

He said to avoid complications, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has agreed to meet officials of the three clubs involved over the issue.
