Civil United Football Club (Civo) have signed Flames first choice goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe who recently ditched champions Nyasa Big Bullets following disagreements over new contract terms.

The Civil Servants’ general secretary Ronald Chiwaula confirmed the deal in an interview yesterday in Lilongwe.

He said: “We have reached an agreement. He has signed an open contract.”

Chiwaula said he was confident that Kakhobwe, who has won numerous league and cup titles with Bullets, will add depth to Civo.

Chiwaula: We have reached an agreement

He said: “We believe that with his experience and capabilities, he will add great value to the team. With his leadership and exposure, he will be an inspirational figure in the team.”

In a interview after signing the contract, Kakhobwe said: “Civo should expect my 100 percent contribution. I will dedicate myself to ensure as a team we win trophies.”

In a related development, Blue Eagles have signed former Bullets and TN Stars defender Ian Chinyama.

Chinyama has signed a three-year deal with the Malawi Police Service outfit as coach Elia Kananji seeks to rebuild the Eagles.

The defender-cum-midfielder was unveiled on Saturday by the clubs chairperson Alexander Ngwala.

Eagles escaped relegation by a whisker on the last day of the league and Kananji said this time they will not take chances.

“We don’t want a repeat of last year’s scenario. We want a team that can win us trophies and compete well in the league title. So far we have had good preparations,” he said.
