Cleric warns against political pampering

Listen to this article

Mabiri CCAP Church resident pastor, Reverend Bannet Magawa Zimba, has warned Malawians to guard against pampering and clapping hands for elected political leaders, saying the tendency breeds laxity and selfishness among leaders.

Zimba observed in a telephone interview this week that Malawians like to shower praises on elected leaders even amid glaring failure (by the leaders) to implement what they promised during campaign.

He said most politicians slacken in their efforts to improve the welfare of people because of the blind loyalty and handclapping from supporters.

Zimba emphasised the need for communities to start demanding tangible development, transparency and accountability from their leaders if Malawi is to transform socially and economically.
