Malawi Government says it wants to develop its human resource capacity to facilitate implementation of climate change policies.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Management Halima Daud said this on Wednesday in Lilongwe during the launch of the Operationalisation and Implementation of the Malawi Climate Change Learning Strategy (MCCLS),

Daud described the launch of the strategy as part of efforts the country is undertaking to fulfil obligations in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Kyoto Protocol which Malawi is party to.

“The primary objective of this strategy is to strengthen human resources skill development and institutional arrangements for the advancement of green, low emission and climate resilient development,” said Daud.

She said the strategy had laid down concrete ways of achieving learning at all levels of implementation from the grass roots to policy levels.

The MCCLS was developed with support from the Swiss Government; the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the National Climate Change Programme (NCCP), a component of UNCC Learn Project.
