Moyale Barracks, Azam Tigers and Kamuzu Barracks (KB) have expressed dissatisfaction with their TNM Super League first round performances and have vowed to beef up their squads to challenge for more points in the second round.

The three are among the teams that have wrapped up their first round matches. Others are TN Stars, Karonga United and Masters Security.

Alufandika: We lost the plot

Moyale are among the dismal performers in the first round having collected 17 points in 15 matches and currently sit on position 11. But they could go further down as teams that lie below haven’t finished their games.

In an interview yesterday, Moyale coach Charles Kamanga said their target was to finish the round in the top six.

But he attributed their poor showing to lack of players in designated areas.

“We didn’t have a natural left-back. We were also short of a midfielder and defender.  I am currently hunting for players to fit in those areas so that we can be better next round,” he said.

Tigers were lethal in the opening stages of the campaign when they were leaders for a few weeks.

However, having played all their first round matches, they are on position six with 20 points.

Tigers’ technical director Robin Alufandika said their target was to finish top in the first round.

“We lost the plot in the few closing matches. If we had raised our game as it was in the opening weeks, we could still be top today,” he said.

“We are looking at recruiting players to improve the squad so that we don’t face a situation like last season when we found ourselves fighting against relegation.”

KB wrapped up the campaign on Sunday with a 1-0 loss to Blue Eagles and after the match their assistant coach Ted Kalinda was quick to point out that their title bid was poorly executed.

They now have 18 points and sit on position seven but face the risk of drifting further behind.

“We had hoped to be finish in the top four but we have been inconsistent and found out in unwanted position. We will analyse the situation during the mid-season recess and see how to improve,” Kalinda said.
