Malawians should brace for more cold days and nights as the cold spell is here to stay, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) has said.

The department’s head of public weather services, Elina Kululanga, said in an interview on Monday the weather is normal during winter.

In winter, the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun and thus experiences colder temperatures whereas the Northern Hemisphere experiences the opposite, according to Met experts.

During the winter, the light rays coming in from the sun hit the earth surface at a lower angle and less energy is transferred to the surface, they said.

From Friday, many parts of the country experienced rain showers due to the weather and it is expected to be the case until September.
