South African-based Malawian reggae artist Born Afrikan, who was organising the aborted show to bring the Jamaican legend Luciano to Malawi, has said people who bought tickets for the cancelled show should collect their money.

Luciano was scheduled to perform at Lilongwe Golf Club on October 19 together with Born Afrikan and a couple of local musicians including the Black Missionaries.

However, the Jamaican cancelled the tour of Africa that would also have taken him to Ghana, South Africa and Zimbabwe due to fears over contracting Ebola.

This is despite all the countries he was to tour have not been hit by the scourge.

“I know some Malawians bought tickets in advance for the Luciano show. But the thing is the show in Malawi has also been cancelled as I am not coming. Therefore, all those that bought tickets need to claim their money wherever they bought the tickets from,” said Born Afrikan in an interview.

Asked as to what happens to the money he spent on bookings the artist said: “Deposit showing our commitment to use the venue on the day was paid, the rest of the venue payment was going to work on percentage basis. Some local artists received deposits as well.

“However, I can’t say I will just leave the money. I’ll have to come to a certain agreement with the people involved understanding that it is not their fault and not mine either,” he explained.

Born Afrikan declined to divulge how much he has spent to organise the event.

“Due to my company policy, we are not allowed to say how much has been spent,” he stated.
