Local fans of Zimbabwean comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube, will have a rare opportunity of dining and wining with the theatrical powerhouse in Lilongwe.

Ncube, who is also a celebrity chef, arrives today ahead of the Grand Coalition Comedy Event scheduled for Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) on Sunday.

The comedian will tomorrow be at Latitude 13 Hotel for a Chef’s Table, according to Q Malewezi, organiser of the comedy show.

To show his culinary skills: Ncube

“We are doing that pre-event in conjunction with the hotel. From Uganda, the Queen of African comedy, Annie Kansiime, will arrive on Thursday and her creative manager, Cotilda Inapo jets in on Saturday,” he said.

Malewezi said Daliso Chaponda returns home on Sunday.

The international stars will be joined by musician Patience Namadingo who recently has been experimenting with his skills in comedy, especially through social media. Up-and-coming female comedian, Nya Uyu is also scheduled to join the crew.

In a separate interview, Latitude’s manager Mehul Lodaya said the Chef’s Table is aimed at allowing Ncube show his culinary skills to his fans.

“We have already done two Chef’s Table events where our chefs show what they are good at. This time around, we have incorporated Ncube who also loves food. So just like our two chefs, he will show his skills as a special guest of the night,” he said.

The Grand Coalition comedy show is a fundraiser for the construction of the Kweza Art Centre and Creative Hub, which when completed will host various creative events in Lilongwe.

Through the centre, artists will have opportunities for collaboration on creative and arts projects, access training in their craft and also in creative entrepreneurship, said Malewezi.

Among other facilities, Kweza Arts Centre will have a 300-seater auditorium which will also be used for dances. It will also be used as an outdoor sculpture garden and exhibition gallery.

It will also have open plan workspaces from which fine and performing artists can work individually and collectively on different programmes and other activities related to their work.
