An independent committee that was set to oversee the forthcoming Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) elections, has cleared all the candidates who have earned fresh nominations.

The committee, which is chaired by High Court judge Slyvester Kalembera has since released the list after a vetting process.

Kalembera: We are through

The elections are scheduled for August 7 at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

Kalembera in an interview yesterday, said: “We are through with the process and so far we have received no complaints relating to the nomination exercise.

“We are now finalising preparations for the elections.”

The committee called for fresh nominations last month after some candidates complained of irregularities during the initial nomination process.

On the fresh list, only Vitumbiko Mwandemanga Gubuduza’s name is missing while incumbent president Khungekile Matiya withdrew her interest to seek re-election.

Former NAM treasurer Abigail Shariff, who is also legislator for Zomba Likangala Constituency, will face former Malawi Queens captain Emmie Waya-Chongwe in a two-horse race for president.

Chimwemwe Bakali and Anastasia Kaphale will face off for the position of vice-president while Isaac Chimwala and Queens’ legend Linda Magombo have been nominated for general secretary (GS) position.

The battle for vice-GS pits Diana Nkhulembe and Yamikani Khungwa-Kauma.

Agnes Chaima and Tadala Yankho Billie will contest for the post of treasurer while Chancy Munthali and Cecelia Mtukule-Mbondwe are vying for vice-treasurer post.

NAM outgoing GS  Carol Bapu yesterday said they are yet to be served with the fresh list of nominees; hence, she could not comment.
