Chitipa District Council has asked area development committees (ADCs) to follow projects being implemented in their areas.

Speaking on Monday during a capacity building organised by Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC), Chitipa District Council director of planning and development Mcmillan Magomero said little supervision of projects by community leaders delays their projects implementation.

In his remarks, Ulambya Songwe ADC chairperson Raphael Sibale said the training was an eye-opener.
“The new committees were yet to be oriented on their roles and responsibilities since their election in 2019,” he said.

MHRRC Chitipa project officer Mcford Nkhata said the training sought to empower local government structures to make informed decisions.

The council, with support from MHRRC, trained the district’s 10 ADCs and village development committees on their roles and responsibilities.
