Communities tout finance project

 Community members in Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi have commended Financial Access for Rural Markets, Smallholders and Enterprise Project for supporting them to venture into farming and businesses.

Under the project, beneficiaries receive between K150 000 and K200 000 as capital. They also get training in financial management and how to run various businesses, including farming.

Beneficiaries tell their success stories

Speaking on Wednesday when Mangochi District Council officials visited the beneficiaries at Makawa in the area, Akulitu Saidi said she built a house with earnings from farming and businesses.

“I have also bought livestock and I opened a bank savings account,” she said.

On his part, Mangochi District community development officer Dalitso Mndinda said he was impressed with the project.

“In December last year a savings and loans group comprising 22 people shared K2.6 million,” he said.

Mndinda urged beneficiaries to continue working hard to beat poverty.

Mangochi District Council is implementing the project in conjunction with World Relief, Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives, FDH Bank and NBS Bank in the district.
