Some community members in Ntcheu have appealed to authorities to intensify Covid-19 preventive messages.

Sub-Traditional Authority Mkutumula said this on Monday when Shirah Devis, a Blantyre-based businessperson, donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to 260 families in the area.

He said many people in the area do not understand the pandemic and how to prevent it.

“We, villagers, know little about the pandemic. There are many misconceptions and myths about it. So, we want more messages,” he said.

The chief commended Devis for the donation and asked other well-wishers to emulate the gesture.

On her part, the donor said she made the donation because people in the area were at high risk of contracting the pandemic due to lack of information.

“Information is vital in the fight against the pandemic. So, as my village of origin, I thought of bridging the gap to save lives,” said Davis.

In her remarks, health surveillance assistant Rhinney Mankhusu urged community members to embrace mindset change to combat the virus.

“We are trying our best as healthcare workers. However, there is a need for people to change their behaviour in the face of Covid-19,” she said.
