Minister of Labour and Manpower Development Henry Mussa has said government will open community technical colleges in all the country’s 28 districts from January next year.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe last week, Mussa said government already identified sites to set up the colleges and is now recruiting students to benefit from the initiative.

He said the ministry is yet to receive communication from President Peter Mutharika on the tuition fee and other costs for the students.

“However, it should be known that this is a subsidised programme. Our President made a pledge about this during the campaign and is fulfilling it. But there are still some things such as maintenance costs that the students will need to meet,” said Mussa.

He said government will finish procuring training tools and equipment, furniture and other teaching materials by mid-December this year.
