A mortuary at Kabudula Community Hospital in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kabudula in Lilongwe has been fixed, almost three years after it broke down.

The development follows intervention by a group of Lilongwe residents calling itself Friends of Kabudula (Fokab) which has lined up a number of activities to change the face of their home.

Fokab handed over the refurbished facility to the community on Saturday where it also engaged traditional leaders on projects the area needs.

Fokab chairperson Lovemore Kachikoti said members of the group conduct fundraising activities and make membership contributions to fund their projects.

“We could not bear it to see the kind of challenges our home was facing. We realised that they can only be solved if we get involved, that is why we started the group,” he said.

Senior group village head Mwang’anira said during the period the mortuary was not working, communities relied on St Gabriel Hospital mortuary at Namitete.

The mortuary, which accommodates three bodies at a time, broke down in 2014. n
