Principal probation officer in the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Dominic Misomali says community radio stations play an important role in disseminating critical child protection messages.
Speaking on the sidelines of a two–day child protection brands media orientation held at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi, Misomali said many people in communities listen to community radios; hence, the need to constantly engage them.
“We are engaging community radio stations to raise awareness among rural masses on child protection core services brands,” Misomali said.
Misomali said by engaging community radios it would also help in bringing messages across to people to enable them report violence and abuses to relevant authorities.
Speaking in a separate interview, Mzondi Banda of Voice of Livingstonia Radio said as media institutions, they were thankful for the workshop, committing to perform their duties to the expectations of people to end violence and all forms of child abuses.
The workshop was organised with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef). n
